    Getting Some much needed Rest

Once the sun goes down and the fun is done for the day, and the hours gets later and later it is bedtime. For some, that can be the most stressful part of any trip. Imagine you are lying in bed trying to get comfortable, but the boat is rocking back and forth. The third slip over is home to a raucous all-night party and it sounds like that Greatest Hits of Neil Diamond CD will be on repeat for the next 6 hours. And to top it all off, the mattress you are lying on is lumpier than week-old mashed potatoes. For every boater, some valuable tips to a good nights rest can be followed.

    1. For starters, sleep on a bed that is large enough for you to fully stretch out on. Many houseboat beds are not full-sized, but do your best to get as close to the ideal as possible. Experiment with different mattresses.
    2. Can't seem to adjust to the constant rocking of the houseboat? Consider taking Dramamine, or the Scop patch, which is a drug applied to the skin behind the ear.
    3. Go ahead and tackle the external problems. Deal with the noise of the dockmates. Approaching the source is ok if you feel brave and very diplomatic. If that is not comfortable, it is ok to go to the marina manager.

Dogs that have to sniff everything to find the perfect spot.

The question presented, "She drives me NUTS! I take her out to do her business and she drags me around the whole neighborhood. When you've got to go, any spot will do, right? Not with this dog. She's got to sniff and smell everything in sight to find the perfect spot. I'm telling you, it's like a CSI investigation! And after she checks out the whole neighborhood, she likes to "spread the wealth around". She does a little bit here, a little there, some more over there ... I'm telling you, I've never seen anything like it. Why can't she just GO already and get it over with?"

I have walked this kind of dog before - haven't you?

Dogs have an incredible sense of smell. Dr.Jon finds this very interesting. Learn more about a dog's natural defenses and see the world as your dog does. Go to: http://www.petplace.com/making-sense-of-your-dog-s-world.
